Baptize 'em young, keep 'em outta Sports - My notes from the last assembly
by jgnat ini had heard of accounts of young baptisms, but i figured it was the exception rather than the rule.
now i wonder, after viewing the models of youth paraded at the last assembly.
i took note of the ages and age of baptism of the five young men (no girls this time) who were interviewed as models of jw youth at this last week's assembly.

MZSweetz, welcome to the forum. The reason most here have a problem with the JW's and this thread if you read the title in particular is that they don't allow children to have normal activities which help them grow and mature socially in a normal way. Most here feel the WBTS is a high control religion that has undue influence over its member's lives, much more so that most other religions.
And many here are quite happy to be apostates, or non believers, it is not a badge of shame as you seem to indicate.
Stick around for a while and you'll get a little more of an idea of why people feel the way they do about the WBTS.

The Memorials coming up......and ......
by ScoobySnax inof course i'll be there on thursday, its one of the very few meetings i go to.

The Memorial never did a thing for me, maybe it was because I never attended it as an adult. But it just always seemed like the most lame empty ceremony I had ever been to. I just could never get very worked up about it. I got more of a feeling for Christ's sacrifice watching a movie about the event than I ever did sitting through the Memorial.

Its like the old joke, are you paranoid if they really are out to get you? I think the WBTS has good reason to be very paranoid.

2034 - A Future History of Jehovah's Witnesses
by slimboyfat ini don't know what i am talking about... read this post at your peril.
back in the 1960s there was, seemingly, a brief period of relaxation in authoritarianism among jehovah's witnesses.
those who have read raymond franz's 'crisis of conscience' will have heard the story about dan sydlik's remark about the need to 'open some windows to let some air in here'.

Don't cry Slimboy, its early here on the east coast on my side of the pond and most of the rest of the yanks are still in bed, I'll give it a read after my next cup of joe.

A Little Help Here -- Heard Something at Work Today about JWs
by Gretchen956 inour union rep at work said she was very sure that jws were not allowed to belong to unions.
actually i don't belong, but she'd really like to get me to join (i am not anti-union, i'm just ambivelent)... anyways, i have been out for 13 years, but i do not remember this being the case, nor do i really remember it being a topic here (please don't post a link, i'd rather just hear the answer!).
anyone know whether this is just an urban legend or if it is truly the case?

Also as I recall if you belonged to a Union and they went out on strike you couldn't picket, but you could support them. I can remember my uncle talking about making coffee and donut runs for the picketers back in the days of the rubber shop strikes.
